Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness where the conscious mind, which normally predominates our thought processes, is quieted, and the subconscious assumes greater awareness. Everyone has experienced the hypnotic state. Have you ever day-dreamed only to be startled back to reality? Or perhaps, you’ve been so lost in your thoughts that you’ve driven right past your normal freeway exit. These are but two everyday examples of natural hypnosis.
How can hypnotherapy help me?
Here are but a few areas in which hypnotherapy has proven to be effective:
Smoking & Tobacco Cessation
Weight Management
•Stress, Anxiety, and Anger
•Overcoming Fears & Phobias
•Pain Management
•Sexual Problems & Enhancement
•Past Life Recollection
•Motivation & Concentration
•Increasing Self-Esteem & Confidence
•Sports & Performance Enhancement
•Dying, Death & Grief
•Relationship Building
•Spiritual Growth
•Insomnia
How Does Hypnosis Work?
The conscious mind presents a barrier to change. The conscious mind is quieted through hypnosis, so that communication with the subconscious mind, the center of change,  may occur more easily.
How Does Hypnosis Feel?
Most people describe deep hypnosis as a pleasant feeling of total relaxation, tranquility, and peacefulness. Some describe it as the feeling you have between wakefulness and drifting off to sleep.
What is a Hypnotherapy session like?
Our typical hypnotherapy session lasts about on hour. On your first visit, you'll fill out an information form as you would when visiting a doctor for the first time. The hypnotherapist will then go over this form with you, discuss your goals, and explain the hypnotic process to you. At that time you may decide whether you wish to proceed with the hypnosis. If you do, the hypnotist will hypnotize you and begin the therapy. While under hypnosis, the hypnotherapist will work to identify issues and events related to achieving your goal and provide the appropriate guidance.
Will I Lose Control When I am Hypnotized?
The purpose of hypnotherapy is to provide you with more control over your mind and body. While it is true you become more suggestible under hypnosis, you never lose control. Like the body, the mind has its own defense mechanisms and you are able to reject suggestions and come up from the hypnotic state whenever you want. You will not do something under hypnosis that conflicts with your core beliefs, values or morality.
I've seen hypnosis stage shows, and people do all sorts of crazy things. What about that?
The important difference between Stage Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy is that stage hypnosis is for the entertainment of the audience, while hypnotherapy is for the benefit of the subject. You'll notice that people volunteer to come up on stage and be hypnotized. They want to entertain their friends and family in the audience, and will do all sorts of things so as not to disappoint them. Getting up on stage and not responding to the hypnotist's commands would mean being a failure on stage, and who wants to be a failure?
How many sessions will I require?
That depends on your goal and your motivation to achieve it.  Most problems are dealt with effectively in one to five sessions.
If Hypnosis is so effective, why can't you hypnotize me just once and solve my problem?
That's possible if the basis for your problem is a simple one. If it is more complex, several sessions may be required to fully identify and effectively deal with it.  It's important to realize that only you can change you and that the hypnotist's role is to help you change yourself.
I've seen advertisements that guarantee I'll stop smoking after one session. Why don't you offer that?
Based on what is known about the treatment of smoking by hypnosis, we don't believe that such an approach is best for long-term success. Our approach to smoking and tobacco cessation is based on two affordable sessions.
So, are you saying that hypnosis is not helpful when trying to quit tobacco?
No, not at all. Hypnosis has been shown to be the most effective means of quitting. Effective treatment frequently involves removing those obstacles that are preventing a smoker from quitting as well as emphasizing the well-known positive reasons to quit.  Our two-session stop smoking program is designed to make sure that you never have to quit again.
How do I know whether I can be hypnotized?
With few exceptions, anyone of normal or higher intelligence who is truly willing to be hypnotized is fully capable of experiencing a deep hypnotic trance.
Do you require a referral by a doctor?
If you are coming in for treatment of an existing diagnosed medical condition, we prefer that you have one. Pain, for example, is a signal from your body that something is wrong, so before proceeding with a Pain Management program, we feel it is in your best interest that your doctor make the determination whether hypnotherapy is appropriate for you now. You or your doctor can download the Referral Form here.
Is Hypnosis Safe?
Yes. Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness. In the over 100 years of documented medical use of hypnosis, no one has ever gotten stuck in the hypnotic state.
